Fighting environmental factors in childhood obesity

STOCKTON – LaCresia Hawkins believes people are finally starting to get it: Don’t park your car on the sidewalk; don’t let your dog run loose; don’t mess up neighborhood parks.

It hurts kids’ health.

They are little things that take some thought but have a collective influence on the communities in which we all live and the perceptions of safety that our children need to go outside and play. The less barriers in the way of children being active, the easier it is to combat the epidemic of obesity that leads to diabetes and other serious, chronic health problems later in life.
